  • Costing from around £500,00 to about £30m to make

  • Guaranteed a berth in the modern cinema market.
  • Funded by mostly European producers, an example of this is the film The Lobster, And I

Hollywood studios:

  • Under 20 films produced in 2015
  • After the last financial crisis Hollywood were able to increase budgets on franchises and 'superhero stuff'
  • A top executive at Hollywood studios stated that its difficult for smaller films as there isn't many 'breakout successes'
Big Budget Dramas:
  • Netflix spent £100m on co-producing their hit show "The Crown"
  • Netflix revealed it has over 90 original productions underway in Europe alone
  • Sky has around 80
  • There is a changing focus in the film industry as pressure is being ramped up by the boom in big-budget drama
UK film production companies to "glossy dramas":

  • Glossy dramas made by US companies have cost £500m a year. By contrast UK domestic films per year has been as low as £198 million
  • The lowest level since 2007
  • Glossy shows costing at least £1 million an episode and the quality and experience is very high

  1. You've made some good notes here Marni,

What I'd like you to add is an answer to the following question: How do you think the situation outlined in the article has affected pre-production?

This will also help you when you come to revision!

    Well done,
    Miss C
